Energy Modelling Produces Numbers
Energy modelling produces numbers.
But numbers alone do not make a building sustainable.
A model can estimate energy use, compare design options, and support green building certification. That is useful.
But the hard part comes after the simulation:
• Which option is worth the cost?
• Which assumption is realistic?
• Which system will operators actually maintain?
• Which comfort trade-off is acceptable?
• Which design change should happen now, before it becomes expensive?
• How will performance be verified after occupancy?
GBC Indonesia’s GREENSHIP Net Zero pathway emphasizes an integrated approach to operational carbon performance, including the relationship between energy consumption and renewable energy. GBCI also lists an Energy Simulation for Green Building workshop scheduled for 14, 21, and 28 August 2026.
That timing is a good reminder:
Energy simulation is not just a software skill.
It is a decision-making tool.
A weak project asks the model to confirm decisions that have already been made.
A stronger project uses the model early enough to shape the decisions themselves.
